“Internal medicine and preventive medicine are the most interesting and academically challenging specialties, which involve extensive direct patient contact. There’s an ongoing need to attend medical conferences and keep up-to-date with the latest medical research and clinical guidelines. I enjoy the direct face-to-face contact with our patients.

“Ideally, I like to educate patients about the best approach to screening for disease, assessing risk and implementing rapid and appropriate intervention to reduce risk and provide early treatment once disease is discovered. I aim to give my patients my undivided attention for all their medical needs with easy access to care and coordination of referrals to specialists and medical centers when necessary.

“As part of a concierge practice, I have unlimited time to spend with patients so I can provide them with the most attentive and innovative medical practice available. This is my passion in life!”

“I like the diversity of patients, from young ages to great-grandparents. The complexity and variety of medical issues mean that I get to learn something with my patients every day. In addition, I love the opportunity to teach my patients to help them take more ownership of their health. The diversity of healthcare also requires a level of lifelong learning that we must continue if we are to provide quality care for our patients. Every year, I spend hundreds of hours reading and attending conferences to make sure I am providing the most up-to-date information for my patients. This keeps it interesting and exciting.

“My philosophy is to always treat my patients the way I want to be treated. I like to remind them that I work for them, and while I may not always tell them what they want to hear, I will always tell them what I would want to hear if our positions were reversed. This exchange of information can also best be done in an environment of mutual respect and support, which we work hard to maintain in our office.”

In his spare time, Dr. Oakes-Lottridge enjoys physical activities of almost any kind: biking, running, hiking and sailing with his wife and four children – even though the kids outpace him. He also enjoys traveling with his family and “staycations” at his home in Fort Myers.

“Wellness is defined as a healthy balance of mind, body and spirit. The constant pursuit of living life to its fullest potential. I feel this embodies my philosophy towards medicine. My goal is to help my patients achieve this balance by creating a partnership of caring, trust and respect with them. While managing chronic health problems is essential, I have felt that medicine is truly about prevention, education and collaboration with my patients to help them achieve their health goals. Through good nutrition, physical activity and available screening tools, I feel I can help my patients strive towards that definition of wellness. I take a holistic approach to the care of my patients as health is not just the absence of disease. My approach is to treat people the way I would want myself and my family to be treated."

“In his spare time, Dr Carrelle enjoys travelling, kayaking, snorkeling, spending time with his wife and 2 Puggles."

“When I was 6 years old, I decided that I was going to be a doctor when I grew up. At that time, my idealized childhood vision of being a physician meant curing illness. However, years of medical training and experience have shown me that doctoring is far more complex than simply snuffing out disease. Medicine is about managing chronic conditions, weighing risks and benefits of treatment options, building trusting relationships, and navigating the intricacies of physical as well as emotional health. Medicine is about the big picture as well as the fine details, the forest as well as the trees. There has been an explosion in medical knowledge and advances in recent years which requires a lifelong commitment to learning and continual improvement.“

“My favorite part of being a physician, aside from the intellectual challenge, is the fulfilling interactions with my patients. I like to tell my patients that my role as the primary care physician is to be the quarterback of the team, the captain of the ship, who will guide them through the complexity of the medical healthcare system to achieve the best outcomes possible. Concierge medicine is a perfect fit for me: it allows the physician to practice medicine the way it should be, in a highly individualized and personal fashion, as opposed to the impersonal, high volume assembly line style of standard medical practice. I love being able to give my patients the time and thorough attention they deserve, and to develop meaningful long-term relationships with them.“

“In her spare time, Dr. Cohen enjoys relaxing at the beach, shopping, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She is especially fond of her devoted Shih Tzu Buddy who can frequently be found accompanying her.“

TESTIMONIALS

Dr West took such wonderful care of my husband Dick and that care extended his life by years. I continue to be fortunate to have him helping me to stay healthy. I wish there was a way for everyone to experience that quality of medicine.

By the way in the last two days this office is the only place that took my temperature before they would let me in. Shell Point and another doctors' office just ask you the questions as to where you have been lately.

Keep up the good work! PH
